Brooke in the hospital

Most of you know this already, but I'd thought I'd post some pictures. Brooke got pretty sick back in January, so we took her to the doctor on the 23rd. He thought her fingers and lips were pretty blue, and her oxygen levels were in the low-mid 80s. The doctor was concerned about her, especially with her cystic fibrosis, so he admitted her into EIRMC. This is what she looked like there.

She stayed at EIRMC over the weekend, but she didn't seem to be improving much. In fact they were having to increase the amount of oxygen she was on in order to keep her levels up. We were also not very pleased with how her respiratory therapy was going. After talking with Dr. Chatfield down at the CF Clinic, we decided to take her down to Primary Children's to do a complete clean-out. It was hard having her so far away, but it was the best thing for her. Jared's mom and sister, Angela, both spend time with her down there. Between them and Jared and I, she was able to have someone with her the whole time. Things just went so well down there, and there was so many fun things for her to do there.

Brooke had a lot of fun at PCMC, but she really was glad to finally come home on 8 Feb. I was worried that she was having so much fun that she would want to stay there or go back. But she is not anxious to go back. She shows everyone the scar from her pic line and tells them how much it hurt. (But at least it was far better than having an IV in like she did at EIRMC.) By the time we brought her home, Brooke's lung function was so much better. In fact her final PFTs (pulmonary function tests) were higher than she had ever got them at clinics before. I'm glad we took her to PCMC and got her cleaned out, but I hope it's a long time before we have to do it again - for her or Jacob!
